Song Lyrics

1. A Quiet Moment with You.

It's very rare in this day and age that you actually get a quiet moment alone. The moment one gets a bit of time it,s grab the mobile and look something up, switch on the Radio or T.V. or get disturbed by a scam caller. One day I actually found myself alone for a few hours and the moment inspired these lyrics.

A strange thing happened this evening, I found myself alone,

No sounds around me, No one else at home

I sat and thought for quite a long time

Cherishing this moment that was mine,

And then I thought I’m never alone

It’s a quiet moment with you.

It’s not a time to ask for things, which often happens in prayer

It’s just a time to be content, of that I am aware

It is a time to look at the life I’ve had,

And ask you Lord have I made you sad?

And then I thought - don’t say a word,

It’s a quiet moment with you.

Life often passes us by, there’s so much for us to do,

But do we profit from any of that, when it all belongs to you.

Why do we rush around everywhere, going from here to there

And then we travel back again, and we know we’ve got nowhere

So Lord, next time this happens and I find myself alone with you,

Let me spend this time doing those things, that Lord you want me to

Cherishing this moment, a little speck in time

Everything belongs to you, none I’ll see as mine

So now I know I’m never alone, it’s a quiet moment with you.

2. Music is very strange when it comes to categorising works. What is the difference between rock and Pop and sub divisions such as Hard, Heavy, Glam, Punk and so on. Folk Music has both traditional and contemporary. Depending on the views of those in a CD shop or streaming platforms can determine whether songs can be easily found. Various people have often said "All Music Is Folk Music, I've never heard a horse sing". Of course Birds sing and other animals like Whales make sounds intepreted as a form of communication and there are various stories of singing dogs and cats. However for the sake of any argument about songs let's stick with the Folk Theory. These lyrics were written to illustrate the point and were written to the tune of

"What a Friend we Have in Jesus" I deliberately chose that song because a Hymn mixed with secular words has an ironic feel about although I'm not sure why ?

All the songs we sing are folk songs

That's a fact you all should know

Horses never ever sing them

neither does a pig or crow.

Birds often sing birdsong

but those songs are often  cheep.

All the songs we sing are folk songs.

Mountain High or Valley  Deep.

Louis Armstrong and Bill Broonzy

Both pointed out this thing

That all the songs we sing are folk songs

They say they’ve not heard a horse sing

If Horses sang songs to us all

Where would that leave songs of Folk ?

All the songs would not be folk songs

And that would ruin their little joke.

Singing Folk songs is important

They tell of life through ages past

Songwriters capture moments

Horses don’t sing, they just run fast

So as I finish this song today

Then I’ll go off on my way

All the Songs we sing are Folk songs

Horses don’t sing songs Neigh,Neigh

3. Back in the day during my times in special education I noticed quite a few, but not all members of the public looking strangely at those with disabilities or using phrases like it'a shame which horrified me. I never saw it as a shame as those people with disabilities had something that many of us lack. Contentment. Some also have happiness and when they smile could eat a banana sideways.

Not only that but there are a lot of neurodivergent people who have so many qualities and a lot to offer that any negative public comments were abhorent to me. This of course was twenty years or more ago and things have changed with some improvements but still a long way to go.

This song says we've all got something to give  and aslo a posh background doesn't make you more talented or better

We’ve All Got Something to Give

Some people are happy, some people are sad

Some people are good, some people are bad.

One thing that is certain about how we live.

We’ve all got something to give.

Some people are rich, some people are poor.

Some people have a lot and others want more.

One thing that is certain about how we live.

We’ve all got something to give.

Life is hard, we all know.foradvice and the song was published after several

Things are tough wherever we go.

Never give in throughout the day

Your gifts and talents can lead the way.

Some people have love, some people have hate

Some people have a house and others and estate.

It doesn’t really matter, where we live.Anonymous

We’ve all got something to give.

Anonymous

Prior to the Internet Songwriters were either successful or unknown. My Father was a Songwriter as a hobby but always strived to get a song published. In 1958 he paid a songwriter to help him with a song. Not only did he pay the songwriter

he also put himself in for 50 % of the royalties which I saw as a old fashioned scam. The song was published but never exploited and to this day I cannot do anything with it without paying the publisher a Licence fee. Since then my Father wrote several songs all to no avail. He passed away in 1986 and was writing songs that no one will hear. That gave me an idea for my song Anonymous. When I wrote the song while it was inspired by my Father it was also somewhat biographical as I was also writing songs that no one will hear.

Move on 20 years and the Internet opened up opportunities for those songs. iN 2009 I started my youtube channel and in

2017 started releasing my own songs. To my amazement I was writing songs that a lot of people would hear and in time I decided to release my Father's songs with the exception of the published song which is likely to remain unheard until 2056,To release that song I will have to live until I'm 102 or line up my Grandchildren to do the deed on his behalf.

The lyrics below were written in 1974 and are probably no longer relevant. However my Father and I are no longer writing Anonymous songs because the Internet self publishing has opened up our songs to the world. The Lyrics were updated when I re- recorded the song for modern day release.

See the man sitting on his throne,

It’s a dream he’s really on his own.

In his mind he knows he’s the best.

He’s always well ahead of the rest,

He’s writing songs that no one will hear.

See the man, singing to his wife.

Tells the tale of his lost life.

How he struggled from day to day.

While his songs they all faded away.

He’s written songs that no one will hear

No one seems to care today, they just let you talk away.

Does anybody want to know ?

Soon his life will reach an end, Will his mind ever mend

The world has lost one more hero.

All his songs are stacked up on the floor.

Mirage crowd are shouting out for more.

All his songs had something to say.

All his friends humoured his day.

And he’s written songs that no one will hear.

When he died they thought his songs would end

The Internet has let them live again

His children never liked them in his day

But now he’s gone, they know he had a lot to say.

And he never knew, his songs would be heard.

People often talk about being Happy or Rich yet as related in The Book of Ecclisiastes everything under the sun is futile. You slave away through life for someone else to inherit your fortune. So reflecting on this I felt we should pursue contentment and not wealth.

This song was written in the 70's when I was going through a particularly philosophical time.

Be Content

Why are you fighting, to gain more in your life?

When you know you have such a lot

Money isn’t everything yet you fight for more

Why not be content with what you’ve got

Why do you worry

When things go wrong?

Why not look at life on the brighter side

You often feel sorry when there is no point

Why not be content with the good things in life

We waste our time trying to be better men

Where is man going, we often act without knowing

We need to share life with love again

Share life with love again.

You don’t need to buy love

Good things in life are free

War and hate cost such a lot

Why do we fight ourselves

We don’t get anywhere

Why not be content with what we’ve got.

Be content with what we’ve got

I've always been fascinated with the Cards Life deals us. People often philosophise about why do bad things happen to good people and evil people seem to get away with everything and anything. That is probably not true as in the balance of probability most people suffer something or other in their lives and others have ups and downs in good fortune.

Ive read many stories of the rich and famous suffering mental breakdowns, suicides and the loss of their children for a variety of reasons which probably may not have happened had they not had the wealth which can bring its own problems.

In my teaching career i often came across those that had talent, some that worked at developing skills and thos who just had nothing going for them. This song really is about wannabees who will never be. It is lightheated but has an underlying sadness that somepeople were born to fail and it is not our role to wonder why. I've had failures and successess but no one knows what will strike next in the rich tapestry of life

Born To Fail

Back in the Fifties when Johnny was born

Rock and Roll was really good.

As a child he’d rock to the radio He’d be a star if he could

But poor old Johnny was born to late

He was always bad a born second rate

He sang to the family and he really tried.

But it sounded like vocal suicide.

His parents thought he was off the rails,

Second rate Johnny was born to fail.

Not before long Johnny saved his cash,

When he was a lad at school.

He taught his friends all they needed to know

About the twelve bar rule.

He learnt from Elvis and Bill Haley too,

He formed a group and showed them what to do

He spent all he had to put them on the stage

But Rock and Roll had started to age.

He turned to drugs and ended up in Jail.

Second rate Johnny was born to fail.

He tried so hard to reach the top, but every gig was one big flop.

His vocal was weak and he couldn’t play bass.

His sense of rhythm was a musical disgrace

Poor! Poor Johnny, didn’t have what it takes

Johnny left prison and met a girl, who was soon to be his wife

He never gave up and he still rocks on,

Despite his new married life.

He sings at a pub every Friday night

But they still say Johnny don’t sing right

Yet it don’t really matter he’s happy anyway

And he’s teaching his kids to make the grade

They hate rock and roll but are too scared to say

But at least for Johnny life’s best that way.

The kids know inside he went off the rails

Poor! Poor Johnny was born to fail.

Second rate Johnny was born to fail.

Songwriting is a very popular hobby for some while others have earned a living as professionals. In my opinion a songwriter should always have something to say whether it be Spiritual, Ploitical, a protest or a romantic song to mention a few of the areas although Romantic probably tops them all. In my younger days i covered many of those areas but ageing creates a new topic. In my youth I pkayed Football, Cricket, Rugby, Basketball , Volleyball and Badminton along with various Athletics and gymnastics. Ocassionally a group of friends would go to the locqal park and have a game of Bowls. Of course the game has often been viewed as an older persons game. A 91 year old neighbour rolled his car window down one day and invited me to the Local bowling club. I said i'd consider it but have put it on hold but I am hoping to take it up at a later stage if I live long enough but it did trigger an idea for a song. I passed the lyrics on to another writer who said he was good at music but needed lyrics to work from. This is a work in progress and I may even set it to Music one day when my other projects are finished.

Bowling

My legs don’t work right anymore

I cannot run a mile like I did before

My Football skills went out early doors

When I play Cricket, I no longer score fours

My body coordination lacks what I had

in fact, I’ll admit I’m now a Grandad

What can I do to keep myself active?

I need to find a game that’s easy and attractive

A game that allows me to do some strolling

I think it’s time to take up bowling

Out on the green on a sunny day

A great way to pass the time away

Friendly people who have a lot to say

Chatting away as the games in play

Time to play my first pitch

Oops that’s Woods flying into the ditch

Knocking out all the bowls in the pack

Even taking with it the Jack

There’s a lot to learn without a doubt

I never expected to take everything out

I must learn to be much more serene

When I’m Bowling out on the Green

I need to display some airs and grace

And play the game at a much slower pace

I must bowl the woods with thoughts for the crown

And not look like some buffoon or a clown

I’ll work really hard for a place on the team

And the day I make my debut, I will fulfil a dream

"Well Done Grandad" I can hear the family proudly say

Then suddenly "Oh No ! Rain’s just stopped play".

Like many young people of the 1960's i latched onto The Beatles. Following them through the Beatles Magazine and TV interviews the name Buddy Holly kept cropping up. of course I was only 4 years old when Buddy Holly was killed in a plane crash so it was only through The Beatles that i was led into research and album purchases. I immediately fell for the Buddy Holly sound and songs when I bought a greatest Hits album and it was not long before I invested in the Vinyl box set of all his recordings. Paul McCartney once demonstrated how Love me do was written by using the same chord sequences Buddy used, the thre chord trick so i couldn't resist putting that to the test with a Buddy Holly tribute song. I was quite pleased when it appeared on a website of Buddy Holly Tribute songs.

I’m gonna sing a Buddy Holly song for you

Hey little baby, let’s relive our past

You know I want our love to last

So let’s get back to those days we knew……oo,oo,oo

Listen here baby don’t feel so blue

Don’t forget my love is true

I’m gonna sing a Buddy Holly Song for you….. de de doo do do dooo

I know I’m getting Old and I realise

My love for you still reaches the skies

So let’s get back to the days we knew…….

Remember those records we used to play

Buddy lives on we used to say

I’m gonna sing a Buddy Holly Song for you……..

The Juke box played "Everyday",

Then we’d go to a drive in and say

Rock and Roll songs are here to stay

No one’s gonna take them away

Times moved on and you’re still with me

The love of my life that was meant to be

So let’s get back to the days we knew

"Words of Love" are in my brain

I wanna sing those songs again

So I’m gonna sing a Buddy Holly Song for you…..de doo do dodo do

The songs we all sang way back then

Are living still as we sing them again,

"Oh Boy". "Peggy Sue" and "Blue Suede Shoes".

"Blue Days and Black nights"

"Early in the Morning", "Well alright"

I’m gonna sing a Buddy Holly Song for you.

Some Musicians and Bands seem to have the ability to go on forever such as The Rolling stones and The Who while others become has beens or forgotten stars. Not through any reason other than public tastes and sometimes mismanagement or bad luck.Other live on the name and do the Cabaret Circuit and are very good at it. However, sad as it is, some cannot relive their great past

and consequently "Can't get back on the road again"

I tried to make some money on the new L.P.

All the critics were laughing at me,

“No chance !” they said, “you can’t sell a name”

“Hang up that guitar son, don’t play the game,

Your golden oldies are on the budget rack

So cancel that tour you won’t get your money back”

I went to find some session men to get a new sound,

They said they couldn’t help me to get up off the ground

They said they liked my records in the early days

but they could earn more money playing in different ways.

I’m nothing more than a rave from the grave

I can’t get back on the road again.

I can’t get back on the road again

I can’t live on with a legendary name

I’m nothing more than a revive forty five

There are people who think, I’m a seventy eight

Fashions come and fashions go,

will my style come back, I just don’t know

I went to see some agents but they always closed the door

They want to see new gimmicks, not what they’ve seen before

Something’s going wrong will my life ever change

I’m trying to get back on the road again.

Maybe I could get myself reissue CD’s

Or get online with a download Mp 3

I could put myself on you tube or a website for me

But maybe that will make me look like a wannabee

I must face the facts I’ve had my reign

I can’t get back on the road again

I can’t get back on the road again

I can’t live on with a legendary name

Should I work in Cabaret or start a record shop

Or just keep dreaming, I’m back at the top.

In my days working with Autism the word "changes" was regulary used. one mistake as a teacher could cause a catastrophic meltdown, I used Music as one way to calm situations and even sang instructions and in some cases got some positive results.

To try and combat the the issues of changes I wrote this song to try and get a breakthrough. The children enjoyed singing it and i even turned it into a game in my live performances to see if the audience could get the rhymes.

                                     Changes

Bread in the toaster changes to toast, potatoes in the oven change to roast

Water in the freezer changes to Ice, Sometimes changes can be very nice.

A grumpy face can change into a smile, you can walk or change to run a mile

You can change boiled to fried rice, sometimes changes can be very nice

Wet clothes in the sunshine change to dry, a caterpillar changes to a butterfly

You can throw to change the numbers on a dice, sometimes changes can be very nice

Sometime changes make us sad, sometimes changes can be bad

Rain can change and get much wetter, but I like change which is for the better

Eggs can hatch and change to a chicken, you can use a spoon or change to finger lickin’

Tadpoles change into a frog, puppies change into a dog.

Sometime changes make us sad, sometimes changes can be bad

Rain can change and get much wetter, but I like change which is for the better

You can climb or go down below, rain when it’s cold can change into snow,

A kitten can change into a cat, You can wear a hood or change to a hat (3)
